Got myself an iPhone 4

July 31, 2010

So yesterday, the day finally came for the release of Apple’s iPhone 4 in Australia and 16 other countries around the world.

I absolutely adored the iPhone 3G and 3GS, so obviously, I just had to get the iPhone 4 too.

As such, I went to my local Apple Store in Chatswood, NSW and lined up for my iPhone at 5:30am for their 8:00am opening.

For those who don’t know, Australia has 4 major carriers for the iPhone. Telstra is the most expensive and best carrier. Optus is one of the other carrier that I had in mind for the iPhone. I have been with Optus for the past 2 years, and while I’m happy 80% of the time, I wanted to move to a better network.

So I decided to port over to Telstra this time, and that’s when everything went downhill. Telstra, for some reason, had a secret mobile plan that definitely beat all other carrier’s offerings by far. However, since it’s secret, the Telstra rep I got assigned had no idea how to sign me up to this plan. I wasted 1.5 hours trying to get myself on the plan I wanted but in the end, the rep denied such a plan existed and wouldn’t sign me up.

Now, I know this plan actually exists as many other people have successfully signed up to it. So since I couldn’t get on the plan I wanted with Telstra, I decided to remain with Optus rather than be put on a plan that didn’t suit my needs.

This is a shame, as I really wanted to switch to Telstra. But unfortunately, after waiting 3 hours in line to get my iPhone, I couldn’t be bothered to argue with the Telstra rep and just recontracted with Optus on a more expensive, less valued plan.

The merits of getting an iPad

Debating on the merits of getting an Apple iPad

Unless you’ve been living as a hermit for the past few months, then you’ve most likely heard of the iPad. Indeed, you may even know some of its capabilities.

Apple’s iPad is a tablet device designed for mobile computing that fits between a laptop computer and a mobile phone. Initially, even Apple probably wasn’t sure what the purpose of the iPad would be. After its release for sale in the United States earlier this month, it’s clear that the purpose is only definable by the person using it.

It’s a device capable of a multitude of things. It allows bloggers to create and edit posts on-the-go, it allows gamers to play their favourite iPhone games on a larger screen, and it even has the function of an eBook reader through Apple’s iBooks app or Amazon’s Kindle app.

The functions of the iPad is really only limited by one’s imagination, and of course, the app offerings themselves.

Overall, I’m really excited to see how the iPad will evolve over time, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. I’m really irritated that the international release of the iPad was pushed to the end of May. Pricing for Australia, and its subsequent preorder will be available in approximately two week’s time, on May 10th.

But despite the many functions that the iPad is capable of, there are also many disadvantages when conpared to something like a netbook. Firstly, the iPad currently is limited to only 64GB of memory. There is no expandable memory slot, and additional peripherals are required for importing photos from external sources.

But despite some of these limitations, I still feel that Apple’s iPad is still a device that will change mobile computing for a lot of people. It’s most likely thanks to Applr’s incredible iTunes infrastructure that the iPhone and iPad is so successful.

Who makes the best cup of coffee around?

Describe what it is about their brew you like.

I don’t drink coffee, so this question is totally irrelevant for me to answer.

In the seemingly endless war between vampires and werewolves, whose side are you on?

In the seemingly endless war between vampires and werewolves, whose side are you on?

Explain your affinity.

The answer is vampires. I would definitely side with the vampires.

I’m talking about traditional blood-sucking vampires and moon-howling werewolves. Not the kind found in Twilight.

Werewolves become mindless animals during a full moon, and just don’t have the cool factor that vampires have.

Vampires on the other hand, are eternal night creatures. They are immortal but not invulnerable. A vampire could potentially live forever, and experience multiple Age of Empires.

This is a simple blog for me to post answers to the questions posed daily at Plinky.

I may answer a question each day, or I may not. It depends on whether I have the time to make a posting.
